Workforce Summit To Show Economic Opportunities, Employment Availability
PIERRE — South Dakota has jobs, and communities in the James River Valley of South Dakota are partnering together to find workers to fill those jobs.

Workforce Summit Coming to MTI
A one-day Workforce Summit will be held at Mitchell Technical Institute on Tuesday, November 15. Gov. Dennis Duaggard will open the summit.

The main topic of the summit is the need for employees with the particular education and skills required by the manufacturing industry. Workforce issues such as these have an impact on companies' abilities to expand and grow.

Manufacturing Companies Find Help Is Hard to Get
MITCHELL — Manufacturers in South Dakota are struggling to find enough skilled workers and are asking the state to help with a solution or they will have to take new jobs elsewhere.

For starters, students need to be encouraged to go into skilled trades, Gov. Dennis Daugaard said. The state needs to make an effort to change the perception that those careers are a consolation prize, he said.

A lack of workers in several towns from Aberdeen to Yankton was a key topic Tuesday at a Regional Workforce Summit in Mitchell. About 150 community, education and business leaders attended the event at Mitchell Technical Institute Technology Center.
